Tregarrick is a fast-moving exciting historical fiction adventure story. Set in 18th-Century Cornwall, when boys slaved in tin and copper mines and girls smashed the ores from which these precious metals were extracted. It tells how Dick Tregarrick joined his father's gang of men, who not content with pitiful wages from the mine endured the hardships and dangers of wrecking and smuggling to improve their lot. The discovery of gold on board the wrecked ship Anneke triggered a chain of events that was to alter their lives - forever.

Quite a short book.

Reader's Reviews

Although the book is quite short, it is a good adventure story. It is also full of moral questions – such as whether it is right to do the wrecking that they regularly do – and Dick had simply not questioned. It is also a sad tale of what happens when a whole load of treasure is there – and what lengths people will go to have it for themselves.
