DescriptionEdit

PlaceEdit

The Day of the Triffids is a post-apocalyptic novel written in 1951 by the English science fiction author John Wyndham. Although Wyndham had already written other novels, this was the first that he had written under this name and it appeared to be by a new author. It was this novel which established him as an important writer, and remains his best known.

John Wyndham's classic tale of ecological catastrophe and survival has the same power and resonance today as it did fifty years ago, and the book is now celebrated as the first, and definitive, great disaster novel.

BookEdit

When Bill Masen wakes up in his hospital bed, he has reason to be greatful for the bandages that covered his eyes the night before. For the spectaculor green meteor shower that he couldn't see has left the population blind, helpless, and at the mercy of the triffids. These strange, ambulatory, and carnivorous plants had once been just botanial curiosities as they lumbered about. But now, with humans rendered sightless and vulnerable, the triffids have become ruthless killers, lashing out with their fatal stings, and it is left to those few, like Bill, to ensure the survival of humankind.

Drawing deep on their inner strengths and on the innate decency, Bill and his few companions confront the problems of a collasping civilisation and the dangers of the omnipresent triffids with amiable commons senes and laudable resourcefulness.
