The Cat in the Hat is a children's picture book, written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss, and published in 1957.

Dr. Seuss' mischievous cat comes to the home of two children on a cold cold wet day and performs lots of wacky tricks and games. The kids pet fish tries to convince them to have the cat leave the house but to no avail. However when Thing One and Thing Two come to play and make a mess the brother captures them and sends the Cat away. Looking at the mess they all realize that they can't clean it up in time before their mother comes home. Suddenly the Cat returns and helps saying that "he always picks up his playthings when he his done". After the house is clean he leaves once again and then their mother arrives and asks why they did while was gone. Well what would you do if your mother asked you?
