The Adventures of Pinocchio was written to be a moralistic tale (like a fairy tale). Pinocchio was written as a very naughty boy who disobeyed and got scammed by criminals. He gets punished roughly for his wrongdoing every time until he becomes a diligent worker with a kind heart and firm principles, so then he turns into a real boy.
