Description

Shadow is a current affairs children's novel, published in 2010, and written by Michael Morpurgo. Its main story is about a refugee who escapes from Afghanistan during the current war.

Never had Aman and his mother needed a friend more than when a Springer Spanial appears - thin and war-ragged - in the mouth of their Afghan cave, where they struggle to survive in a world of poverty, corruption and police brutality. Nursed back to health by Aman, the dog becomes a constant companion, a shadow, and that's what Aman decides to call her.

But life in Afghanistan becomes more dangerous by the moment. Eventually, Aman, his mother and Shadow find the courage to embark upon the treacherous journey from war-torn Afghanistan to the safety of a relative's home in Manchester, England.

But how far came Shadow lead them? And in this terrifying new world, is anywhere really safe...?

Reader's Reviews

The book was really interesting to read. I had already read a book about Afghanistan but this book is a lot different. It is all told in the first person. Different chapters are told by the different people in the book. For example, the first chapter is told by Matt, Aman's best friend when he came to England and the next chapter is told by Grandpa. Anyway I won't tell you too much, go and get the book and find out more yourself! (Olivia Age 14)
