Rose Blanche is a historical fiction picture book, written by Ian McEwan, and illustrated by Roberto Innocenti. It tells the story of the titular character, a young girl named Rose Blanche, who lives in Germany during World War II.
"In this book I wanted to illustrate how a child experiences war without really understanding it... I was a little child when the war passed in front of my door... my father did not want to answer my questions, but I knew was something terrible was happening." -- Roberto Innocenti
1 My teacher, Mrs Cowan, at Roman Hill Middle School read this book to my class, 6TK, I found it very emotional and so did lots of others. We asked questions to one another about this fantastic story and I am looking forward to doing some more work on it. At the age of 11, I can't even start to imagine what it would be like living in England or Germany at the time of world war II.

It is very, very sad, because of its setting of Germany in World War II.
