Into the Wild is the first book in the Warriors series.
"Kittypet" Rusty lives in a house with his Twolegs, but as he sits on the fence and stares out into the forest he wonders what it would be like to live free. After having dreams about what it would be like, he decides to find out, and ventures into the forest.
While hunting a mouse, he is attacked by a cat called Graypaw. After meeting Bluestar, apparently Graypaw's leader, she tells Rusty that he fights well for a kittypet, and asks him to join their Clan, ThunderClan. He agrees and, after spending one more morning with his friend from kithood, Smudge, goes to live in the wild.
