Description[]

Redwall is a tale of Redwall by Brian Jacques. Redwall is the very first book Jacques wrote about his fictional animal universe, and was the original book that made him famous. Since then the series has sold over 5 million books, and is one of the most successful of all time.

It is the start of the Summer of the Late Rose. Redwall Abbey, the peaceful home of a community of mice, slumbers in the warmth of a summer afternoon. The mice are busy preparing for a great Jubilee feast.

But not for long. Cluny is coming! The evil one-eyed rat warlord is advancing with his battle-scarred mob. And Cluny wants Redwall...

Reader's Reviews[]

One of my favourite Redwall books, and carries the brilliance that a first book in a series always does. The book takes the form of a long war, spread over the whole summer, with Cluny the Scourge trying to conquer Redwall. Meanwhile, as a sub-plot, Matthias, a novice Redwaller, is looking for Martin the Warrior's long lost sword... This is magnificent. Also look out for the brilliant dramatised audiobook of it, read by Brian Jacques, his son, and full cast.

This book is the first in the Redwall series and is full of action and adventure. One of my favorite books! I highly recommend it.

If you are a child like myself, or even an adult, I recommend the Redwall series without hesitation. Although this first book may not be his very best, Jacques is definitely the best children's author. Period. His characters are so completely lovable, I even feel sad when an evil character is killed. Also I enjoy the fact that (unlike every other children's series out there) the good guys do sometimes die, even your favorites, and/or the main character. But the story is spectacular!

Thanks for your time, and enjoy Redwall!

Most of the book is a war, so there is a fair bit of non-graphic violence.

Very occasional swearing (always from the bad guys), although they are always made up swear words with no real ones.

This is the first book in the series, and is different to the others, with more swearing etc. The rest of the series cuts this out.
