Description[]
Noel Streatfeild was an English writer best known for her children's books, which often deal with children involved in the performing arts. She was raised in a vicarage, the "plain and awkward" one of the family, an experience which is reflected particularly in the protagonists of A Vicarage Family, The Painted Garden and Tennis Shoes. As a child she did some amateur stage work and was fascinated by the lives of professional stage children. When she was older she worked for a time as an actress in the theatre. Her books are well researched - for The Circus Is Coming she even travelled with a circus.
