Mog is a cat who enjoys a quiet life. When her family go on holiday, she goes to stay with a granny. This sounds safe enough until she finds out that Granny already has her own cat, Tibbles.

This is very well told story, developed using both the illustrations and the text. The cat's eye view of 'the Granny' is well portrayed, and the expressions on Mog's face in different situations are nicely drawn to appeal to young children. I recommend this as an enjoyable read-aloud, but the text is also quite simple enough for young readers to tackle on their own.

This is a good book to spark a discussion about change. Mog says twice (at the beginning and at the end) that "she didn't like things to be exciting. She liked them to be the same." Does your child prefer excitement or routine...?
