James Stevenson is a best known as an American illustrator and author of over 100 children's books. His cartoons appear regularly in The New Yorker magazine.[1] He usually uses a unique comic book style of illustration that is very recognizable. His books, like What's Under My Bed, have been featured on the Reading Rainbow television series.
The first book James Stevenson wrote and illustrated was Walker, the Witch, and the Striped Flying Saucer. He previously illustrated a children's book titled If I Owned a Candy Factory in 1968, but that story was by his eight-year-old son, James Walker Stevenson.
